Krua Bangna is a Thai restaurant chain named after the Bang Na district where it opened. My wife and I ate at its branch in Tops Marketplace Udomsuk on Sunday 9 August 2026 and went back on 15 September. This post covers the dishes worth ordering with their menu prices, how the hot pot works and when to arrive on a Sunday.
Finding Krua Bangna
The original branch is a stand-alone building at 1466 Soi Bang Na-Trat 42 and the others sit in malls such as Central Rama 3 and Central Westgate. Ours is in Tops Marketplace Udomsuk at 59 Chaloem Phrakiat Rama 9 Road in Prawet, a community mall with an open-air arcade, a strip of lawn and free parking. We drove over from Udomsuk. The sticker on the door gives the hours as 10am to 9.30pm daily. We walked in at 4.40pm on the Sunday with no wait, but the room filled while we ate and a queue had formed by the time we left, so an early dinner is the easier one.
Savoury Leaf Wraps With Sea Bass
The dish the menu marks Must Try is the one I would go back for. Savoury leaf wraps with red sea bass, ทับทิม 8 กะรัต in Thai, is ฿245 and comes as a divided platter: a stack of leaves, chunks of fried sea bass in a sesame batter, roasted peanuts, diced shallot, sliced chilli, cubes of ginger and lime with the peel on, with a thick dark sauce in the middle. You fold a leaf around a piece of fish, add a pinch of each topping and a spoon of sauce and eat it in one bite. The sauce is sweet first and salty after, while the lime peel keeps the whole thing sharp.
Fish Cakes And Mango Salad
The fish cakes, ทอดมันปลากราย on the menu at ฿170, are six thick cakes made from featherback fish, fried deep red and served with fried basil leaves and a sweet chilli dip with cucumber in it. They are denser than the thin street cart kind and better for it.
The mango salad is shredded green mango with shallot, chilli and a toasted crumb, served with a bowl of crisp fried catfish to spoon over it. The menu lists the dish as Fluffy Catfish and my photograph cuts off the price.
The Hot Pot
The hot pot, จิ้มจุ่ม, is ฿440 and feeds two. We ordered the set with chicken, pork, prawns and cuttlefish and asked for more pork in place of the chicken, which the kitchen did. A portable gas stove comes to the table with a pot of clear broth and a handful of basil leaves in it, a platter of sliced pork, cuttlefish and prawns plus a second platter of vegetables: Thai basil, glass noodles, baby corn, mushrooms, shredded carrot, cabbage and an egg to crack into the broth at the end. The menu lists add-ons from an egg at ฿10 to sea bass at ฿135. You cook at your own pace, a few slices at a time, while the broth gets better as the evening goes on.
Cakes And The Bill
A cake counter stands by the door. We skipped it, but slices of strawberry cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, black forest and purple sweet potato cheesecake are ฿107 each and the house blend cheesecake is ฿125, with roselle, chrysanthemum and grass jelly drinks in the fridge at ฿30 a bottle. I did not keep the bill. On the menu, the leaf wraps, the fish cakes and the hot pot come to ฿855 for two, with the mango salad on top of that.
Would I Go Back
Yes, for the leaf wraps alone. Arrive before five on a Sunday or expect to queue. For more Bang Na eating, read my post on Bincho at Mega Bangna. For seafood on the water there is Moom Aroi in Pattaya. For more places to eat in Bangkok, start with our Bangkok guide.
