Privacy Policy

A short, plain-language summary of how Farang Travel handles the information of people who read the site. Nothing fancy, nothing buried. If anything here is unclear, write in and ask.

Who We Are

Farang Travel is an independent publication written from Bangkok. When this policy says "we", "us" or "our", it means the editor of Farang Travel. Postal address and a contact email will be added here once they exist.

What This Policy Covers

This policy covers the information collected through the website at farang.travel. It does not cover third-party sites we link to. If you follow a link out, that site has its own policy.

What We Collect And Why

We try to collect as little as possible. As of the date at the top of this page:

  • We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics 4. It only runs after you accept the cookie banner. Until then no analytics scripts load and no analytics cookies are set. After you accept, Google Analytics records which pages you read and how you got to the site, using cookies named _ga and _ga_* that expire after thirteen months. We look at this in aggregate. We do not try to identify you.
  • We use Google AdSense to show adverts. The AdSense script loads on every page but it requests no adverts and sets no cookies until you accept the cookie banner. The Advertising section below explains what happens after you accept.
  • We do not run a comment system. We do not run a contact form. We do not collect names, email addresses or any other personal information from readers.
  • Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, sees the standard request information every web server sees: your IP address, the page you requested, the time of the request and your browser's user-agent string. Cloudflare uses this to serve the site, defend it from attacks and produce aggregated traffic reports. Cloudflare may set a strictly-necessary bot-management cookie called __cf_bm. This cookie does not identify you. It expires after thirty minutes of inactivity. More about how Cloudflare handles this data is in their own privacy notice.

Pages on the site load typefaces from Google Fonts and the Google AdSense script. Google sees the same request information your hosting provider sees when this happens. Nothing more reaches Google until you accept the cookie banner.

Cookies

The only cookies set without your consent come from our hosting provider Cloudflare. The cookie is called __cf_bm and it handles bot management. It does not identify you. Under the Thai PDPA, strictly-necessary cookies of this kind do not require prior consent.

Other cookies, including Google Analytics and the advertising cookies described below, are only set after you click Accept on the banner. Your consent is stored in your browser's local storage under the key FT_COOKIE_CONSENT. To withdraw consent, clear the site data for farang.travel in your browser. The banner reappears on your next visit and the choice is yours to make again.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show adverts on the site. The AdSense script loads on every page, so Google sees the same request information your hosting provider sees. The script requests no adverts and sets no cookies until you accept the cookie banner.

After you accept, Google and its advertising partners use cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to show you adverts based on your visits to this site and to other sites. The same cookies measure how those adverts perform. We do not see who you are. We see aggregate figures for impressions, clicks and earnings.

You can turn off personalised advertising from Google in your Google Ads Settings. How Google uses information from sites that use its services is explained in Google's own notice.

How Long We Keep Things

Cloudflare's server logs are retained according to Cloudflare's own retention policy. We do not keep our own copies of those logs. Google Analytics cookies expire after thirteen months. Data that Google holds for analytics and advertising is kept under Google's own retention rules, described in the notice linked in the Advertising section. We keep no copies of it.

Your Rights

Under the Thai PDPA, you have rights over personal data we hold about you. As of the date at the top of this page, the honest answer is that we hold very little. The rights you have include:

  • The right to be informed about how we handle your data. That is what this page is for.
  • The right to access any data we hold about you.
  • The right to correct inaccurate data.
  • The right to ask us to delete data we hold about you, where the law allows.
  • The right to object to certain kinds of processing.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Committee of Thailand.

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the contact email shown at the top of this page (once it exists). We will respond within thirty days.

Children

We do not knowingly collect any data from children under thirteen. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please write in and we will remove it.

Changes To This Policy

When we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of the page and, where the change is meaningful, we will note what changed and when. We will not quietly broaden what we do behind the scenes.

20 October 2026: added the Advertising section for Google AdSense and brought the Google, cookie and retention wording into line with it.
